Elementary and Middle School
The Islamic School of Louisville emphasizes a rigorous core curriculum with adherence to the Kentucky Core Standards as well as the National Standards. The curriculum is implemented with innovation and enthusiasm by a first-rate teaching staff. The school expects the students to work to their maximum potential both at school and at home.
Teachers encourage students to expand their learning horizons through exploration. Every teacher incorporates the worldview of Islam into each field whether through the introduction of the great Muslim figures in the sciences or through the Qur'anic perspective on nature and humankind. One of the primary objectives is the development of life-long independent study habits in our students. This enables children to get the best out of their in-class experience, and to learn independently of their teacher.
The Elementary School Curriculum:
1. Integrates academic skills with a firm grounding of moral and ethical Qur’anic principles
2. Is current, interactive, interdisciplinary and sequential
3. Directs intellectual, social, emotional, spiritual and physical development
4. Is consistent with its standardized assessment, classroom instruction and state academic content standards
5. Is designed to develop and enhance the skills needed for lifelong learning
6. Teaches diversity and is committed to the betterment of family, community, environment and humanity
7. Encourages independent thinking, critical thinking, problem solving and real world connections from a foundation of strong basic skills
8. Set standards of excellence while considering the uniqueness and varying development levels of all students
The subjects taught include Reading, Writing, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Arabic, Islamic Studies, Qur’an, Physical Education, Art, and Computer. Each subject furthers the development of specific skills, which enhances the level of thinking skills and involves the learner in the process of his or her own emotional and social development. Each grade level is designed to build skills sequentially upon the experiences and abilities of the students in each subject.
ENRICHMENT PROGRAM
The School offers many enrichment programs to supplement the core curriculum. Every year, there is a Science Fair, Reading Competition, Spelling Bee, and Math Bee. In addition, students act out the Hajj in Eid and have a Qur'an Competition. International Day celebrates the diversity of the students, Career Day allows the students think of future careers, the 100th Day of School Celebration helps younger students learn to count to 100, and Field Day is an exciting outdoor community event.
